Spring has Sprung

There’s nothing like a Spring morning to show off nature’s art work.  After crawling to the end of Winter on my hands and knees I now awaken to Spring mornings with such happiness I could almost break into a run.  I say almost because I tried running for a while; I enjoyed it but thanks to a weak right hip I ended up in constant pain and needing to go for regular  t̶o̶r̶t̶u̶r̶e̶  massage to try and put it right. I realise this makes me sound a tad on the middle aged side but anyway I digress;  what I’m trying to say is I absolutely LOVE Spring.

Things long presumed dead come back to life again. Leaves begin to uncurl on branches, daffodils are in full bloom, calves are in the fields looking cute now, but ready to grow up and look menacing causing fear among a not very country girl, and also lambs.  Enough said. Spring makes me hopeful and happier.  There is no longer wet washing hanging from the kitchen airer, nor mud being traipsed in.  I take my hood down (coat not car obviously. It’s not THAT warm yet) and once again regret my winter carb loading.  I’m at least walking with more zeal now and aiming for twice a day as damage limitation.

Exactly 16 years ago today I didn’t have quite such a spring in my step for reasons soon to be explained but I do remember it clearly.

I needed to make a mad dash to the hospital as I was in labour and it was all very sudden. Miss Lashes was 6 years old at the time and I vividly remember her watching S Club 7 on tv.  I felt unwell and knew what was coming and was really distracted by the noise.  My labour progressed very quickly and a friend drove me to hospital in the nick of time. I always remember rows and rows of daffodils on the journey there and thinking it was officially Spring.  If it hadn’t been a Sunday I would have given birth in the car on the side of the road but mercifully the city roads are much quieter on a Sunday morning and I made it into the delivery room with minutes to spare.  Following a very quick delivery bang on his due date (I now realise Miss Lashes was 9 days late because she took so long to get ready and has continued doing so ever since) I was holding a beautiful baby son in my arms. He was an absolute gift to me as he was the easiest most placid, peaceable and easy going child ever.  I had no idea at the time but I was going to be raising him and his sister on my own just 12 weeks later. Not an easy task but certainly made infinitely more bearable thanks to a son that never made a fuss or complained about anything.  I couldn’t be prouder of the young man he has turned out to be. He’s such a good natured, level headed boy and I hope he always remains that way.  His great sense of humour keeps us all laughing and his constant good nature is a quality to admire.

Happiest of Birthdays my dear son.  I pray goodness follows you all the days of your life. 🙂

He asked if I was going to do a birthday blog about him today.  How could I refuse such a sweet face?

Mucky son
