My Week in Pictures

Do not adjust your set.  The picture you see here wasn’t taken in Barbados but actually taken right here in Orkney, this week.  Sunset at Yesnaby by photographer Graham Lyon who kindly gave me permission to use it.

Sunset at Yesnaby.

We are having a mix of beautiful days and some less so, but my favourite thing about this time of the year is the misty mornings.  Monday’s drive to work was met with this scene. The famous and ancient standing stone circle the Ring of Brodgar is just further along the road.

I mentioned here about my swimming and joking apart I’ve been really enjoying it and feeling great in the mornings once I’ve got my lengths in.  I’ve struggled with my weight most of my adult life.  I can yo-yo and not be kind to myself, but I do keep trying and have lots of great people to cheer me on.  In other news, the bracelet was a gift from Orkney Beef while we are on holiday.  Don’t you just love it when your drop a large hint about the exact piece of jewellery you want your husband to surprise you with and he does just that?

This weekend I have laughed and laughed and laughed.  It really is the best medicine. Over the last ten weeks our church have had two young men on placement to cover the summer.  They were a brilliant addition to the church and great fun.  They came over for dinner on Friday and we had the funniest night in a long time.   I wish them all the best in the next stage of their journey and as they say in Scotland ‘haste ye back’

Saturday night there was and RNLI fund raiser do and what a brilliant night of fun, laughter, and dancing with some great friends.

Sadly Orkney Beef coulnd’t make it and we missed his company, I still forced myself to have a good time without him. 😉

Selfies galore!

When two or three are gathered together there shall surely be a raffle.  I was rather hoping to win the giant hip flask for the joking mileage I could get out of it but sadly I wasn’t the lucky winner.  I later discovered it has been filled with whiskey which I can’t stand! Maybe it was better off going to someone who would appreciate it more.

One of the most entertaining parts of the evening was the auction of a bottle Orkney gin. I’ve never seen an auction quite like it and I guess you had to be there, but it was absolutely hilarious.  It was eventually sold to someone who bid £135 but was told by the auctioneer ‘sorry it just went up to £150 and you can afford it’ hope he didn’t drop it on his way to the car!

and all of a sudden the weekend was over and it’s time to return to work.  Here’s hoping we all have a great week and you have lots to laugh about.  It really is good for the soul.

  1. Isn’t it marvellous when people “show up” to support something as wonderful as the RNLI. Orkney methinks has spoiled you all with spectacular weather this summer. Thanks again for the awesome pics

  2. Coming up on the 9th Sept for a week, so hoping that the good weather hasn’t completely shuffled off by then. Also hoping not to have pay £150 for a bottle of Orkney gin!!

    1. I hope you have a fabulous time and the weather is good. Can get windy in Sept but hopefully a little later then when you’re there. Re the gin, don’t scratch your nose near the auction and you should be fine!
