This is part of a WordPress blogging challenge. I’m emailed prompts to write on and why do you write was day one.
I’ve written the most amazing, inspired, incredible best-selling stuff available……but sadly it’s all been in my head and never quite made it onto paper. A bit like nailing that ballad when singing alone in your car right?
I remember walking my son to school one morning when he was about 5 or 6 and I had a brilliant paragraph going through my head. I can remember where I was on the journey to school, and he was on his scooter with his little green fleece and grey shorts. I remember it all so clearly. But what I failed to do was actually go home and write it; so gradually it faded and now it’s gone. Ten years have gone by, and the feeling and emotion I had at the time I should’ve written it has changed and evolved too. So even though I could write something of it now, it would never really have the quality and emotion it once had. I regret not starting ten years ago, so the blogging started out as a writing discipline so I didn’t fall into that trap again. I always said I would write when I had time, whereas now I make the time and count it as part of my daily routine. Admittedly this is usually sometimes at the expense of housework, daily chores and stopping husband and kids becoming feral. But I love it and only wish I had more time to write.
There’s a story in my head that won’t go away and I’m always thinking of developing that, then I have short stories buzzing around, as well as daily events which I can incorporate into a blog. So, all in all, I have to get stuff written down before my head explodes and someone has to clean up a mass of words scattered all over the place.
I’ve always been able to make people laugh. With the invention of Facebook came the opportunity for me to make people laugh in a written form and friends began to express their enjoyment of my story telling sagas of life. A few said it was high time I began writing more, so eventually 18 months later I finally got around to it. It’s an interesting, enjoyable activity. I love writing, I love chatting to you all via the comments, I’ve really enjoyed meeting new people both in real life and on the internet through it and, the discipline of having to write has been a God send for someone like me.
Finally, I love reading and always have. One of my big dreams is to publish a book that others will enjoy reading too. If I want to do that, I need to keep on writing.
Really interesting and can relate to a lot of it, especially the not writing it down at the time and then regretting it bit… Must admit I only followed your blog because I’m visiting Orkney next month and wanted to learn more about life there, but really like your non-Orkney specific stuff as well.
