”I do love a nice peg”
Those words were actually spoken out loud by my colleague today as we were chatting about our love of pegging out. No not dying, hanging out the washing on a sunny day like the one we’ve had today. We were all saying how on days like today we go crazy washing everything we possibly can just so we can peg it on the line. When all washing is exhausted we start eyeing up the curtains as a possibility.
We then moved on to a peg discussion which is when my colleague (who wishes to remain anonymous, I can’t think why) told me how much she loves a nice peg and how she had new ones in pastel colours.
I told her I like wooden ones which can at least go on the fire when they go foosty and the conversation went on for blinkin’ ages.
How did this happen? How did a group of former party animals women end up devoting so much time and energy on the joy of pegging out, a nice washing line and a decent peg? We don’t know, as we later asked ourselves that very question and reminisced about our younger days when ‘some of us’ danced on tables and drank yards of ale…..
Older people will get it. Young people will look on horrified and vow to never turn out that sad. But young things, you mark my words. There will come a day, when you will wake up and see the sunshine and make a beeline for the washing basket so you can peg out and sniff the fresh smelling sheets when you take it back in. You might even take a photo, because joy is just too good to keep to yourself.

Those are some pretty wee pegs! Oh hell it appears my table dancing days are also long since exchanged for a lovely bundle of clean washing! Brings new meaning to the word’s “clean living”.

Ha ha! I, too, joyously pegged washing out yesterday. I prefer the wooden pegs with two little legs. They seem to hold best in the wind here.

Join the club Rhonda. They are called ‘dolly pegs’ here. You could even make little dolls with them and probably still can! X

Ooh I love those! So hard to find here. Fancy making some wee dollies for my girly out of those. Definitely buy some when I get there!!!

I love the dolly pegs!
Usually it is windy here in North Yorkshire and I can put my laundry out 24/7 as I own a dryer tent, but without wind, my radiators will do.
Wonder how good my laundry will dry when we will move to Orkney next year….

it usually gets dried and ironed at the same time up here, the creases get blown out! Good luck with the move 🙂

I have to let you know dear Norq that I found two of your “white items” on the lawn while passing. Your dollies are maybe a bit on the Barbie side. Hope you didn’t think a bad fairy had knicked your washing it’s in the porch.

I thought only MyFriendFiona would think to take the washing in on passing!
